Ophiothrix ist ein Sex von spröde Sterne, und die Typusgattung der FamilieOphiotrichidae.

Eigenschaften

Mit einer Scheibe von etwa zwei Zentimetern und Armen bis zu 10 Zentimetern erreichen diese Arten eine Flügelspannweite von etwa 20 Zentimetern.

Lebensstil

Diese Tiere stecken ihre stacheligen Arme ins Wasser und filtern die Nahrungspartikel heraus.

Verbreitung und Lebensraum

Arten dieser Gattung sind in dichten Herden sowohl auf sandigen als auch auf felsigen Teilen des Meeresbodens zu finden.
