Calanthe ist eine Pflanzengattung aus der Orchideenfamilie.
Aussehen
Die etwa 188 Arten sind im Osten und Süden beheimatetAsien, Zentralamerika, tropisch Afrika und Australien. Die meisten Arten kommen in Asien vor.
Bedeutung des Namens
Der Gattungsname setzt sich zusammen aus dem Altgriechisch Wörter αλός, kalos (schön) und ἄνθος, anthos (Blume).
Typen
Die Gattung besteht aus beiden Epiphyten wenn Orchideen. Einige Arten sind laubabwerfend und haben ein Rhizom mit einem belaubten Mittelstiel. Der Blütenstiel beginnt an der Basis des Rhizoms oder der Blätter. Andere Sorten behalten ihre Blätter und haben ziemlich große Pseudoknollen mit zwei oder vier kurzen Blattstielblättern, die an der Basis des Schinks sprießen.
